Surf Holidays Morocco: Best Surf Spot To Visit!
Looking to book a surf holiday in Morocco?
One of the best places to visit in Morocco for a surf holiday is Taghazout.
How to get there?
Taghazout is a tiny fishing and surf village located 30 kms north of the city, Agadir (Southern Morocco). Agadir has many cheap flights coming in from various European cities. Agadir also connects by road to cities like Marrakech (3 hours drive), Casablanca (5 hours drive). You can book a bus from these major cities to Agadir here.
Best Surf Season
For beginners all year round, but the very best months are in summer (June-August), when the waves are not big, the ocean is warmer, and the waves are not crowded.
For experienced surfers, if you really want to surf world-class waves, then October to March are the best months to book a surf trip to Morocco.
This time of the year is when the Atlantic storms lights up the point breaks, and you will see some of the best waves in the world. Just remember to bring your wetsuit (at least 3/2 steamer) as it is much colder during these months..
Best Surf Spots
Taghazout Bay is a typical right-hand point break surf destination, where the Atlantic swells spit out world-class waves peeling off the rocks from Anchor Point all the way to Panoramas beach.
During the winter swells, the bay sees simultaneous point and beach breaks thereby offering something for all surf levels.
Experienced surfers tend to stick with the point breaks such as Anchor Point, Hash Point, Panorama Point, Boilers, Draculas, and Banana Point.
The most famous point is Anchor Point where most surfers usually jump off the rocks to paddle out to the main peak. This is a classic long point break which can break for over 200 metres.
Intermediate and beginners are often found practicing in the whitewash around these point breaks or on the many beautiful beaches surrounding Taghazout.
The best spots to surf for a beginner or intermediate are; Mysteries, Beach, Panorama Beach, Crocro Beach, Devils’ Rock Beach break, and Banana Beach. Each of these beach breaks offer a nice point break as well.
For the brave hearted surfer, there are some empty waves to be surfed at spots like Boilers, Draculas, and Tamri. Tamri Beach is a rather tricky surf spot with a river current flowing into the ocean, which makes it rather difficult to paddle out.
The strong winds from the north can also collide with the winds from the south thereby making the conditions a bit choppy. On such days, not may are seen surfing, but rather playing Beach Football along with the local population.
